Christmas for the eight years I have spent with my husband has meant one thing:
Celebrating, Grandpa Brusie style. There was always a Christmas chicken dinner at Frankenmuth, family members spilling out of chairs and a new baby or two every year. Grandpa would be there, presiding proudly over the table that represented all that he loved best, in his infamous festive color-of-the-year sweater, carefully coordinated with Grandma.
But the best of Christmas with Grandpa came after the official celebration.
It came when we would stumble, more full than we thought possible and vowing to never eat another morsel of food ever again, into Grandpa and Grandma’s house for the after-dinner Christmas party.
It came when we would all inevitably gather around Grandpa or Grandma in their respective favorite chairs.
It came with the light on Grandpa’s face when he was surrounded with his family on the farm he had worked so hard to raise up.
It came with the warm, cozy feeling of Christmas and family and the booming chuckles of an ever-familiar Santa that would pay a visit.
This year is the first year that we will celebrate Christmas without Grandpa and Grandma. No one has quite gathered the heart to make it out to Frankenmuth without the sight of Grandpa in his holiday sweater. And the question of if there will be an after-dinner dinner (because you know that we would all eat again anyways) remains to be seen.
But there is one thing that will continue.
Celebrating the joy of family and Christmas that Grandpa loved so much. And there’s no better place to do that than the place he loved best–down on the farm.
In honor of their Grandma and Grandpa, The Brusie Family is hosting “Santa Claus is Coming To The Farm,” a special event for your family to capture the joy of family and Christmas that Grandpa loved and shared.
