When I started this blog two years, I will admit that I had secret hopes of becoming one of those success stories that read, “From blogger to book deal!”
I would read other bloggers who manifested book deals at night from my computer, burning with envy as I stuffed my face full of Reeses’ Puffs. How did they get so lucky? The thought that there were other people out there becoming authors while I was stuck at home with screaming children, ill-fitting clothing, and not enough time made me just want to give up on my dream of becoming a writer.
And although my clothes continued to be ill-fitting, even after I stopped buying Reeses’ Puffs (who was I kidding anyways, pretending it was for my kids?), I focused on taking small steps towards my goal.
I started this blog because I wanted to write. And it was the first step.
I got excited when I got 30 hits in one day. That was the second step.
I went for a run one day and had the idea to write a book for young moms. That was the third step.
I went to the library and rented a book on “How to Write a Book.” I couldn’t afford to buy the book, so I literally typed it all out on my computer while Mya (who was a baby the time) napped.
And I started the process that would lead me here–not a widely successful blogger, by any means. My blog is modest and I’m nowhere near making a living off it yet. I am no different than you–in fact, you’re probably way cooler than me, I can almost guarantee that.
The only difference between us is that my goal of becoming an author?
Has been realized.
I managed to learn, slowly but surely, the process of building a platform, networking, connecting with agents, muddling through social media, and writing my book proposal.
I’m constantly learning, but I can tell you this–I’m having the best time of my life.
And I would love to share what I’ve learned so far with you. I’d love if I can join up with you–wherever you are at in your writing journey–to encourage you that even if you feel that all you can do is to take small, slow steps to your dream–
To take them.
It won’t take a lot of time. But it will take commitment.
In eight weeks, I want to take you from an idea to a completed book proposal and the knowledge you need to get it out there.
