Do you ever wonder if you are really living your life?
Like, not just going through the motions, but actually really, truly embracing it? Living it up every day?
I wonder that a lot in fact.
I’ve definitely always been a “next step” person–looking forward to each and every next step in my life. Graduating high school, moving out, college, marriage, the new job, the next baby, the house.
And now I’m here. With all of the “next steps” done. And I feel a bit like I’m drifting through.
My oldest daughter made us a calendar at school for a Christmas present and every day she kneels down in front of it and checks off the day. She peers forward to the next holiday and birthday celebration.
“I can’t wait for Easter, Mom!” she will exclaim.
She is so much like me it makes my heart break.
“Ada, we don’t always have to look to the next thing to have fun,” I say, my words faltering at my lips. “We have to enjoy today too, right?”
She nods solemnly at me, then begins counting off the days until her birthday.
I don’t know. I guess I’ll just keep trudging along and hoping I figure it out, right?
In other news, here’s some of what I’ve been up to over at Everyday Family this week:
This last pregnancy ruined my feet forever. I still have a swollen left foot. Goodbye, my heels.
