The big day is coming and you’re probably full of nerves and excitement — for good reason, of course! Whether you’re being induced, heading in for a C-section, or waiting for labor to begin, you’ll want to make sure that you check these 10 items off of your list before you give birth.
1. PACK YOUR BIRTHING BAG (AND IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT THE BABY!)
Stick to the obvious things like a few baby outfits, a special blanket or item you want your baby to have (pictures are important!), but don’t forget to include things that make you feel good. We don’t all look like Kate Middleton after birth, so it’s important to include some feel-good items, like favorite scented lotion, extra-comfy and roomy clothes, and make-up if that’s your thing.
2. CONSIDER A SOUND MACHINE
I always found bringing a small travel fan to be really helpful to drown out the noises of the hospital. And I introduced a small fan to my kids to help them sleep as well. A fan is a cheap sound machine, you can take it anywhere, and it reduces the risks of SIDS, so it’s a win-win in my book.
3. CHECK YOUR FACILITY’S BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY
If you’re bringing a birth photographer to your delivery, be sure to check their policy ahead of time, including for what the photographer should do in the event of an emergency.
4. CONSIDER CORD BLOOD DONATION
If you’re delivering at one of these hospitals, you may be eligible to donate life-saving cord blood. It’s easy and free to do, so definitely consider it if you can.
