Thank you to Aquaphor Baby for sponsoring this post and sending us samples of Aquaphor Baby’s products to try with our kiddos!
My kids have inherited a lot from me — my second daughter has acquired my intense love for sleep (and ensuing crankiness when we don’t get said sleep), my oldest has sighed with happiness over the prospect of writing in her planner, my son joyfully looks forward to breakfast foods each and every morning, and my youngest thinks she can dance to any beat. Ahem.
Unfortunately, my kids also seem to have inherited my problems horribly dry skin. If you aren’t familiar with the plague that is keratosis pilaris, consider yourself lucky, but if you are familiar with the constant “chicken skin”, characterized by red, blotchy skin and bumps that look like pimples on the backs of your arms and sometimes even thighs, can I just say — welcome.
Knowing that they have inherited my keratosis pilaris and also have very sensitive skin, I’m always on the lookout for products that can help all of us stay moisturized in a gentle way. We live in a very cold climate, so winter is always a problem and let’s face it, with four kids, someone is always dirty, so bathtime is all the time in this house. All of those baths can dry out skin, which is why I was so glad to try out the line of Aquaphor Baby Skin Care products to help soothe and protect their skin.
The Aquaphor line is known for its fast, gentle healing on irritated baby skin and is loved by moms and recommended by pediatricians. We had a chance to try out both the Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment as well as the Baby Wash & Shampoo and 3-in-1 Diaper Rash Cream.
The Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment can help soothes and protects dry, irritated skin and also helps enhance the natural healing process. It’s a great idea to use it with every diaper change to help prevent diaper rash. And bonus: the healing ointment is well, so healing, you can use it for other remedies, such as soothing and protecting minor cuts, scrapes, burns and dry, and even irritated baby skin from too much drool. Hey, it happens. And yes, I may have snuck a little of the healing ointment for my own arms, OK? Don’t judge me.
For diaper rash that has already started, Aquaphor Baby’s Diaper Rash Cream 3 in 1 formula protects baby’s’ delicate skin and effectively treats diaper rash. I especially loved how there are convenient travel-sized options for the healing ointment and diaper rash cream, because holy smokes have we had some accidents in our diaper bag from diaper rash cream exploding everywhere. Tell me I’m not the only one??
By far, however, my most beloved product is the Aquaphor Baby Wash & Shampoo, which gently cleanses baby’s skin and hair without drying it. Enriched with soothing chamomile and provitamin B5, it is specially developed and clinically proven to be mild enough for baby’s sensitive skin.
Baby wash and shampoo is a big deal in my house and I have two specifications: it must be gentle enough for all four of my kids to use it and it must have a pump to allow easy access for big kids to be able to use and me to use conveniently while wrangling the little ones in the tub. It sounds like such a small thing, but it’s true.
Side note: we’re not completely there, but 2 out of my 4 kids can effectively bathe themselves, so mamas of littles reading this, have hope — the time is coming when bath time will be this easy:
Until then, we can do everything we can to make our lives a little easier and our baby’s skin a little softer this winter.
Because that apparently, makes everyone happy. Even little sisters fascinated by how soft their sister’s hair is and little brothers who act like, well little brothers.
