Disclaimer: Paula sent me this book for f-reeee and I signed up to be an affiliate of this book, meaning I get a piece of the pie if you decide to purchase her book through the link I provided, wooho!
A lot of people ask me for advice on how to start a blog and make money off of it.
And by a lot, I mean like a handful, of course, because I really don’t know that many people, but still. It’s enough to make me feel kind of guilty because the truth is?
I have no idea how to make money off a blog.
I am not a business blogger. I don’t make any money off of this blog. I make money by freelance writing for other people’s websites, not my own, which is all well and good and what I set out to do when I started this blog.
When I read the very honest income reports of these bloggers, who make $30,000 A MONTH on their blogs, I start to think that maybe, just maybe, I am doing things all wrong.
I mean, if I didn’t actually know these ladies, I would think it was some sort of scam. But it’s not. I actually know Paula Rollo of Beauty Through Imperfection and she’s the real deal. She’s been blogging for years and puts in the time and the effort to make her blog an actual, profitable business. She even appeared right here on this site when she was first getting started and now she’s so much cooler than me it’s not even funny.
Contrary to what people think, blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme and it takes real work, dedication, and actual hours logged to make it profitable.
But it is very possible to make a living off of blogging.
And I have to admit that I’ve been curious how women like Paula make it work, so I secretly stalk her income reports and follow her group on Facebook to try to learn her secrets. She recently let me review her book, Blogging On The Side: Where Passion Meets Profit, (that’s an affiliate link!) which she co-wrote with Becky Mansfield, to help me learn a few tips of the trade.
The book is literally a How-To Guide on how to blog professionally and it includes everything you would ever need to know–even for dummies like me–on how to make money off of your blog. I feel like a lot of the sites/books/resources I’ve looked into always list common sense things like: run ads on your blog! join affiliate programs! and that’s all great advice, but when I read those “tips” I’d be thinking…
But how??! How do I do those things?
And Paula’s book tells you how. In literal, specific detail on how to do ads, even what size pictures you need for Pinterest and Facebook for your posts, exactly what affiliate programs are good, how to get sponsored posts, how many hours are feasible for moms to put into a blog when they have little people at home.
I mean, it has everything.
I’ve started with baby steps to try to make more money off of my blog with Paula’s helpful advice. I joined as an affiliate (for this book, obviously!) to try make a chunk of change when she sells a book, I signed up to be an Amazon affiliate (really, I had no idea how that worked–you can make money if people buy anything off of Amazon within a week of you linking to a product–what??), and I’m working on a new ebook of my own (stay tuned!!).
You can click over to her book’s page HERE to see a full Table of Contents for what you will find in the book (Hint: everything from tax stuff to social media to sponsored posts) and to purchase.
If you want to start the journey to making money, real actual, life-changing money, the kind that has led Paula to bethisclose to having her own husband quit his job (!), this book is where you need to start.
